Think about the people you know who magnetize a room. It doesn’t really seem to matter what they are wearing, who they are with, or where they are. You just… want to be around them. And so does everyone else.
Have you ever wondered how to become that person?
These magnetic people are the ones have the audacity to show up as enough.
How many images and quotes have you seen that say things like “you are enough”? Have you ever read one of those and thought, “Yeah, I AM!” and then either immediately had a little voice say, “Well….” or had the feeling fade as soon as you scrolled down your news feed to someone doing something that looked so much cooler than what you were doing?
You are so not alone. Every single woman I know has had this experience, whether specifically with pretty Pinterest images or elsewhere in her life. If you’re anything like me, you’ve declared many times that you are enough. I painted it on the wall in my office in my old house. I got it tattooed on my wrist, my only “impulse” tattoo.
Here’s the thing about that pesky “enoughness”.
First of all, we’re taught from a very young age (or, if you grew up at all like I did at least) that when you achieve things, you are recognized and rewarded, and the more things you achieve, the more acknowledgement you’ll get. This puts you in a cycle of constantly trying to prove to yourself and the world that you are enough.
Second, it’s one thing to understand up in your head all intellectual and logical- like that you are, in fact, enough. It’s another thing entirely to actually shift your cells and feel it throughout your entire body in a steady, sustainable way.
Because here’s the thing:
TO TRULY TAKE A STAND IN YOUR POWER AND OWN THAT YOU ARE ENOUGH IS ONE OF THE BOLDEST, MOST AUDACIOUS THINGS YOU CAN DO.
In a world that celebrates mediocrity and has conditioned you to compare yourself to others and tell you that you should be directing your energy toward improving yourself, standing up and declaring (through your words, your energy, your choices) “I’m good as I am, right now” is pretty flippin’ ballsy.
The people that magnetize joy, fulfillment, creative passion- they are the ones who believe to their core that they deserve it.
What happens when you believe you are enough?
When you believe you are enough and actually stake your claim that way, you are showing off your courage and deep trust of yourself. And frankly, that is SEXY.
A lesson I was reminded of recently is that for most of my life, it didn’t feel safe to ‘show off’. People who shine bright can have a tough time growing up and fitting in, and chances are you are one of those people. Maybe you were told to ‘quit showing off’ or ‘stop being a know-it-all’. Totally been there. It’s scary to feel like you’re going to be all alone for shining bright. But guess what? It doesn’t have to be that way.
When you believe you are enough, you can:
1. FOCUS ON WHAT REALLY MATTERS.
All that mental energy you put toward comparing and talking yourself out of (or into) things will be freed up and you can actually get clear on what’s truly important to you. Best of all, you’ll be able to move past that voice that asks “who am I to deserve this?” and simply get to it.
2. TRUST IN WHO YOU ARE AND NOT HAVE TO PROVE ANYTHING.
Instead of having conversations based on proving you are smart enough, good enough, talented enough- what if you could simply show up and be present? When you don’t have anything to prove, you don’t have to buy in to people’s stories (including your own). You don’t have to do or say anything out of alignment with you you are. You can say ‘no’ without having to make excuses or apologize. You simply get to choose what will be best for you in each moment.
3. KNOW WHAT YOU WILL AGREE TO AND WHAT IS OUT OF ALIGNMENT (REGARDLESS OF WHO IS OFFERING OR WHAT THE OFFER IS).
Similar to point #2, even if something seems like an AMAZING opportunity, you’ll be committed enough to yourself to know if it isn’t right. Grounding in who you are helps a LOT with that little thing called FOMO (fear of missing out).
4. BE FIRM WITH YOUR BOUNDARIES AND WHAT YOU WILL AND WON’T PUT UP WITH.
When you are clear, no one can manipulate you or overstep boundaries, because you won’t let them. You get to choose who and what you let in, and you are confident that your boundaries are there to support you and sustain you so that you can enjoy your life every single day and create the dreams and visions you are here to create.
